The plot for 'The Digital Apocalypse' was conceived after reading 'Heaven and Earth' written by Ian Plimer. Winston Frobisher, a social historian, experiences triumphs and tragedies as he navigates through an increasingly digital world of unprecedented social and technological change that challenges his basic principles of love and life. Adam Lampton, influenced by his experiences with aid workers in Africa, commits to a course of direct action to slow the advance of famine, pollution and habitat destruction that threatens the future of a voracious, rapidly growing human population. Individually, their lives are thrown upside down by the unpredictable conjunction of man-induced and natural phenomena that threatens the planet. Will one or both emerge to influence the future?

I thoroughly enjoyed David Groves' book - which is very well written and entertaining. First and foremost the book has an intriguing and thrilling plot - but 'Apocalypse' also contains insights from the author's background as an eminent Professor of Economic Geology within it. That is, the nuances of career progression in the academic world are interwoven into the book's plot as the main characters are developed over a number of years. For any readers interested in an academic career it is an insight into how the world of Universities works these days. Similarly, the book also affords an easy-read opportunity to better understand aspects of natural scientific phenomena including how the Earth's climate has changed over millions and indeed billions of years - setting the context for the book's plot itself. The book is partly set in the recent past and partly in the near-future. Could 'Digital Apocalypse' actually happen? What would you do and where would you go in a power cut that went for not hours but days - and days....... ?Product details

The Digital Apocalypse David Groves 9781925138504 Books Reviews
Great thriller - entertaining and full of surprises, but still based on a realistic scenario. The book provides very entertaining insider views of the academic world behind the curtain. It is well written with a good dose of action and even some science, but most importantly, it is heartwarmingly politically incorrect! Good read!
There is something unexpected lurking in the dark, and suddenly our comfortable high-tech life breaks down. "The Digital Apocalypse" reveals the danger of a totally serviced society, threatened by both natural catastrophe and human ignorance. The novel is built on the heart-breaking story of a present-day university teacher in England caught up in the maelstrom of a rapidly changing world more and more out of equilibrium. Then, this connected global society collapses like a row of dominoes..... But there is hope.
